Our stratified seeds have undergone a treatment with formaldehyde, followed by the application of a fungicide to ensure they are free from fungus and ready for planting. We use red dye this year to uniquely identify our seeds. Don't wait; plant them as soon as possible.

How to check the viability of our ginseng seeds: Our stratified seeds should be firm and red in color this year, thanks to the dye we’ve used. When you cut a seed in half, the internal starch should appear white and moist.

Avoid prolonged storage: when stratification of the seeds is complete, seed germination will proceed and usually cannot be delayed appreciably, even if the seeds are refrigerated. Germinating seeds are perishable and will be wasted if not planted at that time. Please do not wait too long. Plant them as soon as possible.

Short period storage method: Keep the stratified seeds slightly moist (not wet) in a cool location before planting.

How to plant ginseng seeds: Ginseng seed sowing should commence in the fall or early winter. Choose a site that is free from weeds, in at least partial shade, and where the soil has good drainage. Plant the seeds 1 ½ inches deep and space them at least 14 inches apart. Cover the seed bed with tree leaves to maintain warmth and moisture. Ginseng will thrive if left mostly undisturbed. Your main tasks are to keep the bed free from weeds and ensure the soil remains moderately moist. As the plants grow, be vigilant for slugs and other pests, as well as potential fungal issues.
